The Grammy Let Down

Or was it? Were the Grammys really a let down?

I know a lot of you are upset about the disrespect shown to BTS. And I'm not saying they weren't disrespected, because they were. However, I am here to talk about the concept of the Grammys.

I've never understood the need to quantify (measure or determine) art, any kind of art. Art is meant to be appreciated and enjoyed. Art was meant to show your mastery of a certain skill. Why must we place a value on it?

Everyone perceives art differently. Everyone connects differently with music. So to have someone come in like the Grammys and say oh this is good or not good therefore it deserves an award. It was only good to the perceptions of the judges at the Grammys.

We all need to re-evaluate the way we look at these art awards. Is it really about sharing art with the world? Or is it about prestige? Prestige is not art. Prestige is just another way to exclude. That is the point of the Grammys. It is not about who they include. It is about who they exclude. Yes, BTS was included to be excluded. If the point is exclusion, then it's time to recycle or trash the Grammys completely.

So the Grammy was not a let down, because it never deserved the honor to judge music. It was never about inclusion. My heart goes out to BTS and other artists who were disrespected by the Grammys. They and we deserve better!
