Yin Yan Master: Dream of Eternity is one of Netflix's newest releases. It is a Chinese mythology epic, placed in a fantasy world, starring a few megastars! YYMDE features entertainment giants Mark Chao and Deng Lun! These industry kings are known for shows like Eternal Love and Ashes of Love. Every time they are on screen, Deng Lun and Mark Chao have viewers wrapped around their fingers. As soon as I saw these two on the lineup, I knew I had to watch right away!
I love, love, love fantasy Cdramas! They usually contain some sort of mysticism and all of them tend to have a similar foundation. In most Cdramas cultivation, multiple worlds/dimensions and distorted timelines are very expected. [Warning! In YYMDE, please know they have scenes containing suicide and violence. Also, if spiritual violence is not something you are comfortable with, I would avoid watching this film as well.]
[Spoilers] In the opening scene, you see Qing Ming in a teaching moment with his Master. Qing Ming is told to cast a protection spell which he can't seem to grasp. [This is the foundation for the rest of the movie.] From there on the movie takes on a wild adventure while making you wonder what is happening. The story then involves a gathering of guardians, fighting a giant serpent, and saving the world. At the center of it, it still revolves around why Qing Ming can't cast his spell. [End of spoilerss]
I watched this movie three times so far. I am in love with the whole storyline and the big fight scenes. At first, it just seems like two guys fighting and having major misconceptions. Which later turns into this amazing friendship! You also get to understand the multiple layers of the protection spell and why Qing Ming's Master was so adamant he learns it.
Deng Lun and March Chao SHINE in this riveting movie! For most of the movie, you are leaned in and questioning what's going on. If you have two and half hours available, I would highly recommend this movie! You will learn so much from the storytelling as well as enjoy the fun banter and fight scenes.
